I used to love going to the one on Main Street in Royal Oak for Italian ice. There were two or three other locations around in the 'burbs, but now it seems they're all gone. What happened? Were they squeezed out by Baskin Robbins and Cold Stone?

Yep, Baskin Robbin's/Dunkin Donuts are doing so great that Gelato Roma couldn't keep up the sweets. In a capitalist competition, they are winners and losers. But socialism would keep both places open without competition.

The one on Main Street in Royal Oak was a great place to get a cheap pizza for lunch, but I honestly don't think it was run very well. Sometimes it was just not open during it's business hours, other times they were out of everything... Not surprised they closed.

actually, i was friends with the former owner of the dearborn one, he sold it, and the current one is up for sale. there was talk about internal sabatage by the guy who started the franchise, he made it almost difficult to run with horrible costs.

As for Italian Ice? I hear there’s a guy on here that knows about that stuff with mighty confidence... I am sure he could point you in the right direction. His name slips me right now—I think he’s from the Eastside.

beadgrl you're right, the farmington location closed a few months ago. no warning, and it didn't seem like anything was really the cause of it.

it's too bad, because i liked their pizza and i liked their ice cream. and it was about 3 blocks away!
