DETROIT -- Police are looking for a 35-year-old woman who they say shot an innocent bystander when she was aiming at a motorist who bumped her car. Nicole Andretta Ecckles of Detroit is named in an arrest warrant with one count of first-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Detroit Police investigators said that Ecckles and a man argued June 18 at Linwood and West Davison and the man threw something at her car, damaging it. She became upset and fired a shot at the man, but missed, police said. That bullet struck 49-year-old Edward Houston as he walked south on Linwood with his 4-year-old great-nephew. Outlawing handguns has proven even in Canada that it doesn't lower the crime rate. The only thing, I repeat, the only deterrent that keeps a crackhead out of your house at night while you're sleeping is the possibility of you being armed. Just out of curiosity, how many people in Michigan actually get hit with the full statutory sentence for carrying without a CCW permit? Isn't the maximum possible sentence five years? This woman was a criminal (convicted felon) who was not only in possession of a firearm but discharged the weapon as well. This has nothing to do with citizens who obtain firearms legally. As for the title, I am more concerned with the facts that yet another criminal, who is carrying and concealing a weapon, fires the weapon and kills an innocent bystander in the presence of a minor. While lacking a rudimentary grasp of the English language to express ones self without slipping and sliding into some street vernacular is a problem many have, however considering what she did, and the reason this fired the weapon, to question his verbiage about the title, on an Internet message board of all places, is trifle.
