Saw-wielding cut 'n go rascals also are annoying drivers on the far, far west side: Crooks cut off vital car parts

Over the past two months, thieves have sawed off dozens of catalytic converters on parked vehicles at businesses on the west side of Washtenaw County -- apparently for the precious metals they contain. . . . 10 incidents have been reported over the past two months, including several where numerous catalytic converters were stolen.

That was called theft. Not 18 month old toddlers being slain by their own parents or another's bullets.

I don't see why this is even posted, when everyone knows theft is a big problem in AA. Why is sawed off catalytic converters a big deal when hundreds of houses are broken into in AA every year. More ipods on campus are probably stolen in a day, than these parts totaled in a year.

Stealing a bag of chips from 7-11 is a crime too but no life was lost. Theft is a big problem in AA because it has become the neo-Detroit for Ypsilanti & Belleville.

Because there is a movement to justify crime in Detroit by claiming "oh but it happens everywhere, SEE?" But really, why is this even posted?

If there was a crime spree of car thefts in Livonia, some users on this board might erupt into a cheer. Well, that is until Trainman came in and reminded us that if Wal-Mart paid the fuel tax then the SMART buses would stop bussing in the criminals. Or something.

Why is this even posted?

Because I was among those who were surprised initially to read here about this brazen, offbeat type of theft a few months back while a forumer lunched at Union Street . . .

. . . and now that it's clearly a widespread annoyance in the tradition of airbag thefts, it seems amusingly provincial to see The Ann Arbor News catch up to "the local trend."

No ulterior motive, really. Sometimes the simplest explanation applies.
