Does anyone have personal experience or family stories about the old Mercy General Hospital? This historic hospital closed in 1976.

I have an old Mercy General Hospital postcard which reads as follows:
"The Mercy General Hospital was founded in 1917 by Drs. Daisy and David Northcross, Sr., at 668 Winder Street, Detroit, MI. Dr. and Mrs. David C. Northcross, Jr., now direct the hospital's activities in its modern, new building at 2929 Boston, Detroit, MI"

668 Winder Street is near downtown, about 1/4 mile north of Ford Field across I-75. 2929 West Boston Blvd. is between Dexter Blvd. and Linwood Street.

I'll scan and share the postcard shortly.

A bit of internet research on Mercy General Hospital (MGH) reveals it had historical significance.

In 1955 Dr. David C. Northcross, Jr. took over the helm of MGH from his parents. Then about 1957, Dr. Northcross, Jr. moved MGH from 668 Winder Street to 2929 West Boston Blvd. Unfortunately, MGH closed in 1976.

Here is a biography on Dr. Northcross, Jr. --> http://www.med.umich.edu/haahc /Oralbios/northcross.htm
