Hi, been a member on here for a while now and still read or comment on things from time to time. I live up in Traverse city and come to to see my family as much as possible.
I have kind of a weird request, and just tell me if I'm out of line.. Is there any way to still get into the MCS? Since I was a kids it's always been my favorite building in the city and always wanted to just take a look inside. or better yet, is there anyone who could show me inside? There are so many pics on the Internet from inside I figure some people are getting in.
Up north here I've explored about everything there is. A security guard actually showed me into the abandoned state hospital. I'm not looking to go break things or start taking people myself. I'd just love to gave a look inside.
If there's anyone willing to help me out please say so. I'm commin down there next week during my college spring break.

Hello, K. I've also wanted to take a look inside.

You had a chance to look at the inside of the old state hospital? Tell me about it, I'd love to hear what it's like after so many years empty. What a great building.

How I've done it there and elsewhere for over 20 years:

Go at 5 am on a weekday.
Wear sturdy, worker clothes, scull cap, boots, etc.
If you must bring a bag make it small as possible.
Bring TWO flashlights!
Bring a bottle of water.
Do not bring anything you are not willing to part with if the need arises.
Park downtown.
Leave everything in your car but the day's needs and one piece of ID.
Take Michigan Ave. Bus to Roosevelt Park.
Walk perimeter.
A way in will present itself.
When you find it take it, don't dawdle.
Lastly, if you are noticed by law enforcement, do not evade them. Approach them, give them your ID before they even ask for it. Explain why you're in there.
This has gotten me out of pinches over a half dozen times.
Good luck and walk safe.

Hehe, ok Krawl. Sounds like a good plan.

The state Hospital is pretty cool, I gotta say. I'm not entireley sure what the function was of the building we went in, but the spaces in there were huge. 15 foot cealings and just big rooms, a very open florr plan. The levels above had what looked to be patient rooms. Much like the buildings in Detroit all the hospital has been hit by vandals since it's closing.
The security gaurd "heffy" cruises around at night looking for any vandals he can find. if he does find them he usually tells them to put down the spraypaint and if they want a tour of a builing he'll give them one. Great polocy in my opinion as most people who would break in just wannna have a look around inside. Here's one of the pics I took while inside:

Yep, very big complex over there. Once had a full working farm that the patients worked at. And we can thank governor Englar for shutting them it and throwing the mentally ill out into society without the proper care. Or forcing them to hide in the vast network of tunnels that were built under the structures..

I understand completely, K. Sorry about the misunderstanding. I thought you didn't know which type of hospital it was. ;-)

If you go to the MCS, please be careful.
